Despite Transport for London’s claim that nearly half of all Tube trains are running, commuters heading into and around the capital faced severe disruption on their journeys today.
TFL said that over forty per cent of Tube trains were operating this morning, despite fears of great disruption due to the strike staged by the RMT and TSSA unions.
With the strike affecting more stations than before (closing 70 stations), Barclays Cycle Hire usage could be set to beat previous records. During the strike of September 7th, usage rose by 32 per cent to a record 24,500 journeys.
According to the BBC, a fourth strike is being planned to take place November 29th.
“We are doing everything we can to keep as many Tube services as possible operating today and more trains will be coming into service as the day goes on," said London Underground MD Mike Brown.
"We are also keeping Londoners moving by providing extra buses, river services, and other alternatives. Londoners will face some disruption, but over 40 per cent of Tube trains are running with services on all but one line, meaning that the city is not paralysed and people are able to get around. More services are operating than during the last strike, exceeding our earlier expectations."
