International Bike Fitting Institute appoints Lee Prescott as interim president

The International Bike Fitting Institute (IBFI) has announced the appointment of Lee Prescott as its new interim president, effective immediately.

Prescott takes a wealth of experience in cycling and business management to his new role and is poised to lead the IBFI into its next chapter.

With a background in industrial design and ergonomics, he has worked as a designer and consultant for countless global brands. He has also been a frame builder for almost four decades, where he developed his clinical fitting protocol.

For the last 15 years he has run the successful Velo Atelier Bicycle Studio in the UK.

Prescott has been the editor of International Bikefitter magazine for the last three years and is a respected bikefit educator.

This appointment comes at a pivotal time for the IBFI as it seeks to build upon the groundwork laid by founder Andy Brooke over the past decade.

With a focus on advancing the trade of bike fitting, Prescott intends to concentrate on several key areas to propel IBFI forward.

First and foremost, Prescott aims to consolidate the significant work accomplished by Brooke during his tenure.

Recognising the importance of honouring the IBFI’s history while also driving innovation, he is committed to building on Brooke’s efforts to propel the IBFI into the future.

In addition, he plans to streamline the IBFI’s operations by simplifying the application process for members.

By revamping the institute’s website and automating various tasks, Prescott aims to free up volunteer time, allowing for a greater focus on high-value initiatives that will benefit IBFI members and the cycling community at large.

Furthermore, Prescott is passionate about increasing the promotion of bike fitting to both the cycling public and industry professionals.

By highlighting the benefits of effective bike fitting, including improved bike design and increased rider satisfaction, he aims to raise awareness and drive demand for IBFI-certified fitting services.

One of Prescott’s key initiatives will be the rollout of the global educational standard for bike fitting.

It is hoped that this standard ensures that registered fitters meet “rigorous criteria” and adhere to best practices, providing consumers with confidence in the quality of service they receive.

By establishing this standard, Prescott hopes to enhance the credibility of IBFI-certified fitters and empower cyclists to make informed purchasing decisions.

“I am honoured to lead the IBFI during this exciting time of growth and innovation,” said Prescott.

“I am committed to building upon the incredible work done by Andy Brooke and furthering the IBFI’s mission to advance the field of bike fitting.

“Together with our dedicated volunteers and members, we will continue to promote excellence in bike fitting and foster a community of happy, well-fitted cyclists around the world.”
