Olympian pays a visit to huge Kent-set cycle project

‘Jamie Staff Academy’ in the works for new Cyclopark

The cycle stars of the future will be able to develop their talent at a ‘Jamie Staff Academy’, based at Cyclopark, Kent.

The Olympic gold medallist visited the Cyclopark facility at the start of the week, which is currently under construction, as part of a tour in the Kent Thameside area. Staff had earlier spent two hours coaching 20 young people from Team Darenth’s Go Ride club at Wilmington Enterprise College.

Staff said the Cyclopark and Academy are vital for backing local young talent.

“I’ve been involved with Cyclopark right from the initial concept and it’s incredible to be on-site and know that within a year the dream will become a reality. This area of the South East is in desperate need of a cycling facility of this standard, especially one that will cater for all levels of ability.

"I can’t wait to see Cyclopark provide inspiration for beginners, and hopefully develop Olympic and Paralympic champions of the future. The Academy that I’m discussing with the project team today will play a huge role in that and I sincerely hope I am back here in 2012, cutting the ribbon and opening it to the public!”
