Talking the future of bike retail with Specialized’s Donny Perry

Donny Perry is Specialized’s senior manager for retail development. I talked with him at the launch of the company’s pop-up store in Dusseldorf last week, and you can listen via episode 160 of the Spokesmen podcast

Perry is the author of "Leading Out Retail – A Creative Look at Bicycle Retail And What All Retailers Can Learn From It" and is originally from Des Moine, Iowa, although is now based at Specialized’s Californian HQ.

We talked about …

  • the future for bicycle retail
  • the entry of Canyon as a market distruptor
  • how Amazon Home Services could shake up cycle sales and servicing
  • how to combat showrooming

Podcast-years are like dog-years so the 11-year-old Spokesman is the old man of the industry. It can be subscribed to on iTunes. Last month it achieved its highest ever audience, with nearly 50,000 downloads.
