Red Hook Criterium Championship Series comes to London

London, July 2016: Rockstar Games presents Red Hook Criterium, the premiere international track bike criterium series making its return in the capital this summer at London’s iconic Greenwich Peninsula, Saturday 9th July.

The Red Hook Criterium’s unique racing format challenges competitors over a short, technical race circuit riding brakeless, fixed-gear bikes traditionally raced on a velodrome. Attracting skilled athletes from multiple disciplines across the world, all competitors need to possess street-tuned handling skills and exceptionally high levels of physical fitness to compete for a place on the podium.

This year’s London event sees three-times world champion and 2012 Olympic team pursuit champion Dani King MBE to make her debut. She stated: “I’m thrilled to be taking part in the London leg of the Red Hook Criterium Championship Series to compete against some of the world’s best fixed-gear cyclists. I can’t wait to be involved in what will be a spectacular showcase for women’s cycling at the Greenwich Peninsula on July 9th.”

One of the most visually spectacular, spectator friendly, adrenaline-charged bike races in the world, the RHC has rapidly grown since its humble beginnings in Red Hook, Brooklyn in 2008. Expanding first to Milan in 2010, followed by Barcelona in 2013, and making its return to London after its debut in 2015, the RHC is firmly established as the world’s premiere track bike criterium.

David Trimble, Championship Director, said: "After the excitement of Brooklyn we can’t wait to see how the championship develops in London for the second race of the season,” adding that “the atmosphere in London last year was crazy with thousands of spectators lining the course for our inaugural visit. Naturally, this year is going to be even bigger now that we are well established here.”

The London circuit is being designed and built by Trimble Racing with event partners FACE and the team at Greenwich Peninsula, Europe’s single largest regeneration project.
