Lance Armstrong is expected to become the first ever cyclist to be honoured with BBC Sports Personality gong when the annual awards programme airs on Sunday. Previous winners of the overseas prize include Muhammed Ali, Michael Johnson, Tiger Woods and Steffi Graf.

Lance to be crowned Overseas Sports Personality of the Year by the BBC

Armstrong was presented with his trophy last month in Texas, reveals Procycling magazine.

Brit pro rider Tommy Simpson – who died on a stage of the Tour de France – was the winner of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 1965, the year of his world championship victory in Lasarte, Spain.
