Specialist cycle insurance provider and BikeBiz Awards Competition Partner Cycleguard is set to welcome former Italian professional cyclist Flavio Zappi to this year’s Awards night.
Zappi, who in the 1980s rode in three editions of the Giro d’Italia and wore the King of the Mountains jersey, will join guests in Birmingham on 25 September in his capacity as Cycleguard Ambassador.
As Competition Partners for this year’s event, Cycleguard – which provides specialist cycle insurance for cyclists covering theft, damage, public liability, personal accident and roadside recovery – will also be running a competition offering attendees the chance to win a case of wine.

Adrian Scott, head of Cycleguard, said: “We are delighted to be welcoming Flavio to this year’s BikeBiz Awards as well as catching up with our network of independent bike dealers to discuss how we can continue collaborating to keep their customers cycling safely.
“Cycling in the UK has undergone something of a renaissance over the past few years, and the recent injection of funds by the Government to improve existing and fund new cycle routes will also hopefully make it easier and safer for more people to get on their bikes. But unforeseen incidents still occur, and by working with our partners, we aim to continue reminding cyclists that covering their bikes and accessories against theft and accidental damage enables them to enjoy their time on two wheels with complete peace of mind.”
In addition to his role as Cycleguard Ambassador, Zappi continues to run Team Zappi, the cycling team he set up in 2009 to provide experience to under-23 riders based in the UK who are looking to advance to the professional cycling circuit.
Zappi said: “I am very much looking forward to joining my Cycleguard colleagues at this year’s BikeBiz Awards which acknowledge the efforts and achievements of the very best bicycle retailers, distributors, manufacturers and cycling press in the UK."
Cycleguard is also continuing to work with other high-profile cyclists and was recently named as the official bicycle insurance partner for WorldRide, a unique global cycling event which will see business leader turned cycling enthusiast Liz Dimmock seek to become the fastest woman in history to circumnavigate the world by bike.
Ansmann UK is backing the BikeBiz Awards 2013 as Platinum Partner. Event Partners are Suarez, JVC and Cycle-S.O.S. This year Competition Partner is Cycleguard and ISPO is Retail Partner for the Awards.
The trade-only event will also see a display of vintage bicycles kindly donated for the evening by the National Cycle Museum.
