380 people pre-registered for the Phil & Friends Peak District ride with CTC president and Tour de France commentator Phil Liggett. Nearly 100 registered on the day. And this was no pootle in the park. It was 96 miles of tortuous hill climbs (mind you, loads of killer descents too)

CTC president’s ride attracts nearly 500

I know, I was there.

Like many, I used the impending deluge on Winnat’s Pass to chicken out and plump for the 69 mile ‘short cut’.

Anyway, top marks to CTC organisers who staged a superb ride, backed up with some highly professional course literature.

The ride was to raise funds for the CTC Cyclists’ Defence Fund. A cheque for £100 will be winging towards the CTC as the BikeBiz contribution to this important new service for cyclists.

Right: Simon Gershon of Orbit was tech support on the day, following on his large motorbike. Any repairs needed? "Just two mountain bikers," said Gershon.
