It all started with a strip of Velcro. From this and a classic back bedroom start-up location, Ian Elliot helped create business worth £10m within ten years. His expertise at brand building is now available to hire. His new brand marketing agency, Salad Creative Ltd, is looking to gain bike trade clients

Animal co-founder starts brand marketing agency

Salad, like Elliott, and the early days of Animal, is based in Poole, Dorset.

It’s a brand development and marketing communications company with specialists in brand identity, marketing, displays and exhibitions, promotions and design ranging from graphics to products.

Elliott is targeting specific industries where he believes his experience, enthusiasm and empathy will work to best effect. He’s especially keen to break into the bicycle trade, where even many of the top brands are still poorly promoted.

"When Animal became a desirable brand in the bike market we had terrible trouble finding a communications agency that could understand the cycling consumer, the Animal brand and how to maximise Animal’s exposure to that group," said Elliott.

"Out of sheer frustration, we had to do everything ourselves because the agencies just couldn’t bridge the communication divide effectively."
