The Bikeability Trust has launched CycleIn, a new e-learning programme for adults, designed to help people ride more confidently.
Launching in September 2026, with backing from Forest Bikes, the adult cycle training is available for £7.99 and offers online modules designed to build road cycling skills. The trust says the training can be completed in as little as 1.5 hours.
Bikeability says CycleIn is separate from the government-funded Bikeability programme and has been designed by experts with more than 18 years’ experience in delivering in-person cycle training, drawing on the Highway Code and National Standard for Cycle Training.
The modules support adults who want to return to riding, such as those who cycle for work, delivery drivers, commuters keen to increase confidence, or in-person trainees as a skills top-up. The training covers road positioning, navigating junctions, route planning, e-bike use, and cycling alongside others in urban environments, and can be completed on a phone, tablet or laptop.
Chief Executive of The Bikeability Trust Emily Cherry MBE said:
“Many adults are locked out of cycling because they haven’t got road confidence. CycleIn changes that. Backed by The Bikeability Trust’s expertise, it gives people the knowledge they need to cycle on today’s roads safely. Cycling is one of the most affordable, healthy and sustainable ways to travel, but confidence is key. With CycleIn, we’re making that confidence accessible to everyone.”
The e-learning modules follow the recent ‘Lost Generation report’, released in partnership with Forest, which reveals that <5% of people who cycle have had adult cycle training and consequently limit themselves to traffic-free routes.
It also found that women are substantially less likely than men to report feeling confident cycling in traffic, navigating junctions, or dealing with unexpected situations. Low confidence in traffic remains one of the biggest barriers to everyday cycling.
CEO of Forest Agustin Guilisasti said:
“At Forest, we have seen first-hand how e-bikes can help people rediscover cycling for everyday journeys. In fact, 14% of our female users and 12% of our male users say they had never cycled before using Forest. But access to cycles is only part of the solution. People also need to feel confident riding in real-world conditions.
CycleIn is an important step in helping more people get back in the saddle, whether that is to commute to work, run errands, or move around the city in a more sustainable way.”
CycleIn group licences are available to help employers to support the national Cycle to Work Scheme and reduce corporate carbon footprints, supporting CSR goals.
Helping organisations encourage active commuting and support workforce wellbeing, CycleIn is the ideal addition to employee benefits packages.
CycleIn is available at www.cyclein.co.uk, from £7.99 for individuals; from £75 for corporate licence packages.
