Eurostar has changed its policy on those travelling with a bicycle, forcing them to dismantle and box their bikes before boarding.
Not surprisingly, Eurostar’s cycle-loving customers have not welcomed this news with open arms, with the CTC among those blasting the travel operator for its "ill-thought out policy" which has "touched a nerve across Europe’s cycle community".
Should all the protests go unheeded by Eurostar, consumers can show their disapproval with their wallets, as the ferry industry has pointed out.
A press statement issued by Discover Ferries has played on Eurostar’s move, titled ‘Worried about taking your bike abroad? Take the ferry instead’.
The PR piece continues: "Travelling by ferry allows passengers complete flexibility and freedom to just pack up their bags and go, from the whole family comfortable in a caravan, to avid cyclists, and those wishing to simply camp out under the night sky.
"One of the rising stars of ferry travel freedoms is cycling and there is an abundance of incredible cycling routes to be found at hundreds of destinations, including relaxing cycles by the sea or blood pumping mountain descents."
