Taiwan’s e-bike exports grow by 131%

The export revenue of Taiwanese bicycles, including complete bikes, e-bikes and components, increased in the first three quarters of 2019, according to statistics of Customs Administration, Ministry of Finance.

The overall export value reached $2.624 billion, with a growth of 11.09%. The export volume of bikes reached 1.638 million units, a slight decrease of 1.12% compared with the same period last year. The export value reached $1.009 billion (-7.55%), and the average unit price reached $615.99.

Export orders in the e-bike market increased, with export volume and value of 452,000 units and $591 million respectively, an increase of 131.42% and 119.51% respectively over the same period last year.

The average unit price was $1307.59, a slight decrease of 5.15% compared with the same period last year. The export volume of components was 34.76 million kilograms, down 4.31% from the same period in 2018, and the export value reached $1.024 billion (+2.16%).

In the complete bike section, if analysed by exporting regions, the North American Free Trade Area (NAFTA) and the European Union (EU) exported 595,000 and 1.823 million units, accounting for 36.35% and 46.88% respectively.

The UK surpassed the Netherlands to become the largest importer of Taiwan’s EU region. Except for Japan (sixth) and Australia (eighth), the top ten export countries are distributed in Europe and the United States. South Korea and mainland China have fallen out of the top ten export countries in 2019. The Italian market has grown rapidly, and its export volume has increased by 26.03% compared with last year, and it has become the ninth largest exporter.
