Singletrack magazine will hold its second awards dinner at London's Business Design Centre on Thursday 25th September. As MC, out goes Brant 'Diocalm' Richards, in comes Phil 'eight shoes' Liggett...

Singletrack awards bash to be staged at Cycle 2003

Supporting the race commentator and president of the CTC (who in this month’s Cycle Sport admitted he only owned four pairs of shoes) will be "an MTB personality," said Michael Heal, PR officer for the Cycle 2003 expo.

At the inaugural awards dinner last year, the winners included Tim Johnson of Sideways Cycles in Alsager, Cheshire as ‘Best Retail Outlet’ (the gong for mail-order specialist Chain Reaction of Northern Ireland was thrown into a corner by Brant Richards because of the flak CR received from contributors to the bulletin board) and Red Bull’s Mountain Mayhem as ‘Best UK Cycle Event’.

Singletrack’s awards are voted for by mag and website readers rather than being

awarded arbitrarily by a panel of experts.

"Our readers are experts in what they want to ride, where they want to ride and who they admire for their work," said Chipps, editor of Singletrack.

For 2003, there will be twelve awards across a range of categories which take in the manufacturing, retail, media and events sectors as well as awards directly relating to Cycle 2003 itself.

Adding to the complexity, votes can also be registered on the Cycle 2003 web site.

"Singletrack is pleased to be associated with Cycle 2003," said Chipps.

"We found a large percentage of the showgoers to be civilised, older riders who are into

cycling for life and have the money to support their hobby – exactly the same as our readers."

The Cycle 2003 Singletrack Magazine Awards will take place at The Business Design Centre after the press/preview day on Thursday, September 25th. The ticket price of £50 will include dinner and entertainment.
