Samways shuts

Samways Cycles of Derby ceased trading on Saturday. The shop was founded as Samways for the Highways by Reg Samways in 1932. Ten staff have lost their jobs.

Samways died in 1963 and his sons Alan and John took over the business. Alan’s son Nick joined the business in 1983. Samways for the Highways became Samways Cycles in 2014.

A statement from the company directors – all three are members of the Samways family – said: "Thank you to all our customers for their support throughout our 84 years of trading."
