All funds raised from Cumbria Gala evening, apparel and sportives will go to Michael Bonney trust

RideForMichael.org goes live to promote Bonney fundraising events

RideForMichael.org has launched today with details on fundraisers, apparel and future events – all directly benefitting the recovery of Michael Bonney following his life changing crash at a Sportive in March earlier this year.

A gala dinner and fundraiser is planned for September 13th at the North Lakes Hotel in Penrith, Cumbria. A fundraising auction will take place on the evening, with rides with Team Sky, XTR groupsets, a ‘Shimano Experience and a signed Steve Peat jersey just a small selection of the items to be auctioned off.

This event is followed shortly after by both a September 21st Tour de Ben Nevis ride and a Ride for Michael Sportive, set to take place on September 29th, setting off from the Penrith Leisure Centre and taking in either a 30 or 60 mile ride via Dufton, Milburn and Langwathby.

The man himself is encouraging people to get out there and ride, telling BikeBiz post accident:

"I don’t want anybody to stop riding bikes because they think they might injure themselves. I want people to get out there and ride bikes. I’ve spent all of my working life getting people excited about bikes and even though spinal injuries happen to cyclists, and especially to mountain bikers, it’s very rare. I was unlucky, shit happens. Get out there and ride, for me."
