Electric bike brand continues march into Europe

Powabyke pedals into Denmark

UK-based Powabyke has secured a distribution deal to bring the brand to Denmark.

The attractive Danish market boasts a robust bike industry and a pro-bike infrastructure with over 10,000 km of scenic cycle routes and bike backing urban planning.

Copenhagen-based Thomas Jutesen will oversee the newly set up Powabyke Denmark, which has ambitious sales targets, according to the firm.

Jutesen said: “The electric cycle market in Denmark reached 20,000 units in 2010, and the market is growing fast. The market is expected to reach 50,000-80,000 units per year in the near future.

“I believe that Powabyke Denmark will be able to achieve a market share of ten percent within a few years as the well-designed X-byke range will be welcomed by Danish customers. This target will be reached by progressive sales and marketing efforts, and in 2011 all bike dealers in Denmark will be aware of the innovative electric cycles from Powabyke."

The distribution deal follows the launch of the Powabyke Mk2 X-byke range.

Powabyke MD Nick Child remarked: “We have been in discussions with Thomas for a few months now and his organisation impressed us and certainly has the ability to distribute the new Mk2 Powabyke range into the expanding Danish Market. We are very pleased that the Powabyke X-byke was chosen as a suitable product for the demanding and design-conscious Danish market. We have already started shipping product for 2011. The Scandinavian markets are an important part of our export strategy for this year and with Sweden already underway and now Denmark, we are pleased with the progress.”
