Brand's first venture outside Yorkshire closed this week

Planet X Edinburgh shuts

Nine months after opening, Planet X Edinburgh has shut, blaming large overheads of the city centre being incompatible with "industry setting low prices".

The shop was set on South Clerk Street and opened April 2014, taking over the Tri Centre. The shop was Planet X’s first venture outside Yorkshire. The brand also has stores in Barnsley and Sheffield.

In a statement being circulated on Twitter, the firm said:

"Regretfully we have had to close this store as of Monday 12th January 2015.

We apologise to all our customers, but out industry setting low prices were not commercially viable with the large overheads of a City centre store.

All of our products are still available online, with next day delivery at www.planetx.co.uk
www.on-one.co.uk

If you are returning to the stores with a question about any of our products, then please call our customer services team on 01709 386666.

We thank everyone who has used this store for your custom and look forward to bringing you the best online cycling bargains in the future.

The Planet X Team."

Last year the company was rumoured to have seen a number of high profile departures, according to sources.
