Events company Pennine Events has secured a three-year contract to continue to deliver Scotland’s biggest bike ride, freshnlo Pedal for Scotland.
The award-winning company bagged the contract against strong competition following a tendering exercise by Cycling Scotland.
freshnlo Pedal for Scotland is an annual mass participation ride, this year taking place on September 9th. It started as a 50-mile ride from Glasgow to Edinburgh in 1999 and in addition to incorporating the same ride, it now includes a 100-mile Sportive and a nine-mile Edinburgh Family Ride, and corporate challenge, while also being linked to SkyRide Glasgow.
Pennine Events have organised Pedal for Scotland on behalf of Cycling Scotland since 2007, since which entries have risen from 4,000 to over 9,000 riders in just four years.
“We’re really pleased to win the three-year contract,” said Pennine Events director Mark Sandamas.
“We feel that we have come on an incredible journey over the last four years. Our aim is to keep pushing the event forward and turn it into Scotland’s biggest participation event.”
The event has also picked up multiple awards, including the Grand Prix Award and Best Sports Event 2011 at UK event awards, Best Sports Event at the 2010 UK Event Awards, Best Scottish Sports Event and Best Event Management Awards at the Event Scotland Awards in both 2010 and 2009.
Founded in 2002, Pennine Events has over 60 years collective events experience, and delivers numerous mass-participation cycling events including the Bradford City Run, Under and Over the Mersey, The Great Notts Bike Ride, as well as crowd management at the 2007 Tour de France.
This year the Lancashire-based company will deliver over twenty events across the UK, including The Liverpool Chester Liverpool Bike Ride, The Scottish Bike Show Sportive, Great Notts Bike Ride, and British Heart Foundation London to Brighton Night Ride.
