Today Cycling Plus has unveiled the winner of its Bike of the Year 2012 competition – the Focus Izalco Pro 3.0.
Beating off competition from 25 contenders, the Focus Izalco Pro 3.0 claimed the coveted title thanks to what C+ called its ‘strong engineering features, lightweight design and comfortable ride’.
The annual process of selecting the Bike of The Year takes staffers three months, during which time the 25 bikes are tested over thousands of miles. The selection process centres on the best bike priced between £1,500 and £2,500, or the average amount Cycling Plus readers say they are planning to spend on their next bike.
Rob Spedding, Cycling Plus editor, says: “This year’s test has been the toughest so far, which is tribute to how far the bike industry has come in the past few years. It wasn’t easy to agree on a winner, but after hours of heated arguments we decided that the Focus had the edge. It offers the best of everything and takes bike engineering to a new level, responding instantly to the rider’s needs – be that cruising along on a weekend route, or pushing hard up a mountain.
“Cycling Plus is the bible for anyone thinking of taking up road cycling and we’re always striving to support the industry by promoting new bikes, gear and products. Every bike in our line up is a great purchase and we hope to continue to promote excellence in the industry.”
The mag said: "At £2,100, the Focus Izalco is worth every penny as it represents the cutting edge of road bike engineering. Its lightweight frame weighs in at under 8 kg and is the same frame ridden by the Pros in last year’s Grand Tours – a design that will continue to influence the market in years to come."
