One of the foiled raiders has now been sentenced

Noah’s Ark bike thief jailed

Last August thieves attempted to make off with £15,000 worth of bikes from Gloucestershire bike shop Noah’s Ark.

Memorably, owner Chris Hart blocked the thieves van mid-raid, preventing them from making off with the high value mountain bikes.

Local paper Stroud Life reports that one Michael Chaplin has been locked up for 18 month after admitting he was one of the would-be thieves – the rest are as yet unfound.

While no bikes were stolen thanks to Hart’s actions, there was £7,000 worth of damage to the store and security system.

Prosecutor Julian Kesner said: “It was planned and the shop was deliberately targeted for the high value bikes. Any doubt goes when looking at the CCTV of the burgled shop when the group goes immediately to the back of the store, ignoring the lesser value bikes at the front. They knew what they were doing and where to go to get it."
