‘My Journey’ celebrates opening of new bike hut in Woodley

Wokingham Borough Council’s My Journey team has celebrated the launch of its newest bike hub at Woodford Park Leisure Centre.

Woodley Town Mayor, councillor Sam Rahmouni officially opened the new bike hub at a community event in February, which was attended by borough and town councillors.

Residents were able to get their bikes serviced, seek advice from the ‘Dr Bike’ clinic on site and partake in a number of other activities.

Toddlers and young children were offered balance bike training, and learn to ride lessons for those ready to get onto their first pedal bike. More experienced young cyclists were also able to obtain Bikeability Level 1 cycle skills, as well as practice their braking and manoeuvres on the outside tennis courts.

My Journey has two other bike hubs in the borough, one at Finchampstead Baptist Centre, and the other at Montague Park Primary School. Both provide cycle activities and events for residents. The new bike hut will provide a storage facility for equipment to allow for more activities and events to be held in Woodley.

Councillor Pauline Jorgensen, executive member for highways and transport, said: “My Journey has played a crucial role in keeping our residents healthy, and encourage cycling.

“This great new bike hut will allow My Journey to meet the needs of residents in and around Woodley and Earley, and encourage them to cycle more through events and activities on offer.”
