Beaumont, who recently broke the record for cycling round the world in 78 days – 44 days shorter than the previous record – will be present during the event weekend to share his stories, cycling experiences and passion for the sport through a series of Q&A’s, book signings and meet and greets.
Having now exceeded the circumnavigation cycling world record twice in his career, most recently taking the 18,000 mile title, averaging 240 miles a day, Beaumont will be speaking on a number of topics including overcoming setbacks and developing cycling abilities to entrants of this year’s event.
Taking place across the weekend of May 19 to the 20, The Etape Caledonia will welcome over 5,000 cyclists to the Scottish town of Pitlochry.
The event offers participants 81 miles of closed-road cycling in the heart of Perthshire. The route will challenge cyclists to tough climbs including the Schiehallion, amongst others, and fast paced cycling down closed roads.
Senior vice president and MD, EMEA mass participation and operations from IMG Marc Webster commented: “We’re honoured to have Mark Beaumont join us as an ambassador for this year’s Etape Caledonia. As the world record holder for cycling round the world in the fastest time, we hope that entrants of this year’s event will benefit from his cycling experience and be entertained by his inspirational stories.”
Beaumont added: “I am delighted to be returning home to Perthshire to support the Etape Caledonia – these are the roads that I first cycled at the age of 12 and this was my training ground for taking on the World in 80 Days. I am proud to see thousands of riders from all over the World, descending on Pitlochry to take on this stunning route.”
