Votes from a public referendum on the introduction of a proposed congestion charge in Greater Manchester have returned a unimous ‘no’ from all ten of the city’s councils.

Approximately 1.94 million people were able to have their say on whether to accept a peak-time charge as part of a £2.8bn package of investment in public transport.
If put in place, the charging zone would have been the biggest in the UK.

London Mayor, Boris Johnson recently angered the LCC by scrapping the proposed Western extension of London’s congestion charge. In place where the scheme is in place, cycling is said to be far higher.
