London 2012 cyclists to take part in Victory Parade

Following last night’s London 2012 Paralympic closing ceremony, Olympians and Paralympians will take part in a victory parade in London today, as reported on BBC.co.uk.

Starting at Mansion House and finishing at Trafalgar Square, over 90 per cent of Britain’s medal-winners (up to 700) will take part. The event starts at 1.30 and will finish around 4pm.

There will be coverage of the parade from the BBC, Channel 4 and Sky.

Great Britain came third in the medals table in the Paralympics with 34 gold medals, behind China and Russia. Multiple-gold medal winning cyclist Sarah Storey was flagbearer at last night’s closing ceremony.

Commenting on the parade, Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: "No sporting heroes will have been more lauded, no achievements more celebrated, and no nation more passionately proud than at the Our Greatest Team Parade, which will sweep through central London in a glorious miasma of colour, noise and excitement. This is a chance to celebrate the heroes and heroines who have thrilled us with their skills, sportsmanship, and grace during London’s spectacular Olympic and Paralympic Games, and whose names and triumphs will live on for centuries to come."
