Events Manager Urban Hill Climb (Temporary)

Website London Cycling Campaign

About LCC and Urban Hill Climb

LCC is a cycling charity and the largest urban cycling campaign in the world. We have over 20,000 supporters, including 12,000 members and 30 borough groups. We believe that making cycling the number one transport choice for every-day, local journeys will generate immense environmental, health and economic benefits for London.

LCC is currently campaigning across London for an end to Dangerous Junctions, where the majority of cyclist fatalities occur, and for Climate Safe Streets in every London Borough. We are also running a Cycle Buddies scheme and working to secure the continued roll out of cycle tracks and neighbourhood cycling projects across the city.

After a two year break, 2022 marks the return of the unique and much loved Urban Hill Climb. Riders compete for their best time up Swain’s Lane, which runs alongside the world famous Highgate Cemetery. Roadies rub shoulders with cargo bike couriers and Brompton enthusiasts in a fun event for all-comers that helps raise awareness of LCC’s work while showcasing cycling for the local community.

Purpose of the Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced event manager to help organise and manage the 2022 Urban Hill Climb. This is the only hill climb inside the M25, attracting riders from across London and the UK to take on Swain’s Lane in Highgate. Around 300 participants and 2,000 spectators are expected throughout the day.

This is an exciting and varied role. You’ll oversee all aspects of event planning and delivery including set up and build, rider registration, race day timing, food and drink, and suppler liaison. The successful candidate will be well organised, able to prioritise and capable of working to deadlines. You’ll need to demonstrate experience in managing public events; experience organising competitive cycling or sports events is desirable but not essential.

Application is by CV and Cover Letter.
