Show considers launching association and will include a rep only lounge at this year’s show

Interbike gets behind bike industry sales reps

US bike show Interbike has announced it has plans to cater for the ‘forgotten souls of the bike industry’ – sales reps – and form a non-profit association.

To kick-start its commitment, Interbike will instal a ‘Rep Only’ lounge on the show floor at this year’s show – taking place September 14th to 16th in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Rep Only lounge will be located next to the floor court, providing a place for the reps to relax – with free coffee and beer – and also as a place to discuss the benefits a sales representative association could provide.

"I started my career as an independent rep in southern California in 1983, and have worked in various sales positions for more than 20 years," said Pat Hus, Interbike’s new MD. "Reps’ costs of doing business have continued to increase, but commissions have generally remained flat or gone down. We are looking to help start an association that can deliver meaningful discounts and benefits with very low annual dues."

"I’ve discussed the concept with lots of reps over the years about the ‘what ifs’ of a rep association," continued Hus. "There is universal agreement that the collective bargaining power of an association would help immensely. It could help independent and factory reps save significant money on every single expense report. I am excited about presenting the details of our vision to as many reps as possible at the show. The Rep Lounge will be the gathering point for those discussions."
