The value of bikes made in the Netherlands now tops €577,000, higher than any other country in Europe, according to BikeEurope.
The statistics – produced by the Dutch Statistics Agency CBS – sees Germany and France follow the Netherlands in second and third respectively in the European table.
The total value of bikes made in Europe last year reached €1.9 billion, with Holland providing 30 per cent of that total (€577,000). Germany produces 18 per cent of the total value (at €340,000) and France produced 8 per cent (€170,000) of Europe’s value of bikes last year.
In order of value, Italy came next at €160,000, followed by Poland, Portugal, Spain and Sweden. The UK was 14th in the table, producing €20,000, according to the statistics.
Holland’s dominance is attributed to the number of electric bikes it produces. The value of bikes produced in the country was 20 per cent up on 2007.
