Irish Cycling Show organisers Mara Media have estimated the show’s footfall – between the Irish Cycling
Show and Dublin City Council’s family entertainment – to be 20,000 people.
The show was held in Dublin City Council’s Merrion Square Park Dublin over last weekend (May 10th and 11th) with over 60 exhibitors travelling from as far as Canada to showcase and retail their products or services over the two days.
Taking on a different form for the Giro, Merrion Square East was transformed into a village of Marquees and pagodas for a festival atmosphere at the show. Dublin City Council held family fun activities in the West of Merrion Square Park with live music, face painting, children games and more, inviting families to stay in the Park and enjoy the Cycling Show.
Stage 3 of the Giro d’Italia saw over 200 cyclists travel 187km from Belfast to Dublin, arriving outside government buildings on Sunday at 4.30pm to sunny weather, despite earlier forecasts of rain. Many of the spectators migrated to the Cycling Show after.
Mara Media said it was delighted with the weekend: “This was our first outdoor event and we are pleased with the positive feedback we have received, the large footfall and the atmosphere around Merrion Square over the weekend exceeded all expectations.
“The Giro d’Italia holding a stage in Ireland was a unique event and we are delighted we could be part of the celebration.”
Plans for the next years show are already underway, we’re told.
