Fulcrum launches new Wind wheels

Fulcrum has launched the Wind 55 DB, Wind 40 DB and Wind 40C wheels.

The new rim, which has been redesigned for use with the new, more ‘generous’ tyres, is crafted from several layers of carbon, culminating externally with a unidirectional finish.

When designing the new Wind profiles, the R&D department made use of the aerodynamic skills and knowledge gained during the studies carried out in recent years, which led to the development of the profiles now used by teams on the World Tour. The 40 and 55 mm profiles of the Wind rims feature a wide aerodynamic design (27mm) with a pronounced 8mm profile, which “shows its true potential when it comes to aerodynamic penetration, creating an element of continuity with the tyre without interrupting the flow”.

The inner channel of the rim is 19mm wide and boasts two-way Fit construction, and as such is tubeless by conception. This ensures that it is ‘perfect’ with both 25 and 28 mm tyres, and can also be used with 23mm versions.

Another construction detail is the Mo-MagTM technology it boasts, holes are not required to fit the spokes, no changes need to be made in order to switch to tubeless tyres and there is no mechanical processing to interrupt the continuity of the carbon filaments. This increases the solidity and stiffness of the rim.

The new Wind DB will be available in AFS discs and HH12-100 mm through axles on the front and HH12-142 mm on the rear. This configuration does not use any form of adapter, and as such “guarantees maximum overall precision and rigidity”. In terms of the freewheel body, all options are already provided for, Shimano HG11, XDr or Campy.

All versions will have an SRP of £1099.99. The wheels are available to order now from a local Fulcrum dealer.
