Evans Cycles begins additional direct contributions to Bike Hub, the Bicycle Association’s levy fund.

Evans Cycles contributes directly to Bike Hub

Previously making contributions to the Bike Hub levy fund through its in house brand Pinnacle, Evans Cycles has now started to contribute an additional direct contribution.

James Backhouse, the marketing director of Evans Cycles, said: “We have been impressed with the support that the Bike Hub provides to cycle participation projects across the UK. We are delighted to be able to make this additional contribution to the Bike Hub scheme and so support the work they do, particularly in encouraging the next generation of cyclists.”

Bike Hub raises about £350,000 each year with contributions supporting cycling participation projects across the UK. Currently, the Bike Hub fund supports British Cycling’s Go-Ride youth training programme, and Sustrans’ Big Pedal event.

Phillip Darnton, executive director of the Bicycle Association, said: “It is extremely gratifying when new contributors decide to join Bike Hub, and we are delighted that Evans Cycles has been so inspired, particularly by the work we do with Go-Ride clubs across the UK.”

The Bike Hub levy has raised almost £4m since it started in 2003 and was created to “safeguard the future of cycling.”

As well as supporting youth cycling programmes the Bike Hub levy has funded the Space4Cycling campaigns from London Cycling Campaign and CTC, and earlier in the year it partnered with British Cycling to produce two “how to” videos fronted by Chris Boardman. These were aimed at showing motorists how to safely overtake cyclists and why it’s legal for cyclists to ride two abreast. Between them “Space” and “Side by Side” have had more than 420,000 views online.

Bike Hub now receives contributions from Brompton, Cycling Sports Group, Cyclemotion, Evans Cycles, Fisher, Giant, Halfords, Moore Large, Moulton, Paligap, Pashley, PCM, Raleigh, Schwalbe, Silverfish, Specialized and Trek.

Evans Cycles is already an official partner of British Cycling’s Go-Ride programme, the racing and training initiative for young people. As part of this, they have provided 1,500 bikes to over 300 Go-Ride clubs across the country. Together, British Cycling and Evans Cycles have committed to delivering two million opportunities for young people to get into cycling by 2020.
