Following the initial safety warning on 12th July, DT Swiss confirmed on 29th July that this
has now been moved to a full product recall.
While the original Stop Ride Notice applied to selected DT Swiss ERC, CRC, and HEC wheels, the product safety recall was widened to include various ARC models manufactured in the same factory.
Although there have been no reported defects for ARC series wheels, DT Swiss is carrying out detailed quality checks to make absolutely sure these models are unaffected.
- ARC wheel models with rim heights of 38, 62, 80, and 85 mm are NOT affected.
- All rims made in DT Swiss’ own Polish factory are NOT affected.
- The recall applies only to certain wheels made in Vietnam starting 1st August 2024.
- Wheels with a DT Swiss ID starting 2740000 are potentially affected – the recall website shows exactly where to find the ID for initial check.
As this recall works through, Adrian Phillips, Brand Director, Madison, shares details and outlines why the UK market has taken this approach.
UK market-specific approach
“In the UK, Madison is the appointed DT Swiss centre for wheels, which means retailer help is essential in getting the word out fast.
“Unlike in other European countries – where DT Swiss can handle recalls direct – here in the UK we (DT Swiss and Madison) rely on the strength and reach of our dealer network. This network has already shown how fast and effectively it can act. The team at Madison don’t take this for granted. Your work is deeply appreciated.”
Why your retailer role is key
Tests have shown that on certain ERC wheel families, spontaneous delamination can occur around the rim flange, leading to potential rim failure.
We want to reach every affected rider as quickly as possible so that wheels can be checked, tested, and either cleared or replaced – keeping riders safe and helping you get back to selling with confidence.
What Madison are doing to support retailers
- We’ve brought DT Swiss staff into Madison HQ for several weeks to test wheels and release them back to market faster.
- Added extra Madison staff to speed up boxing, testing, and returns.
- We’re covering all collection and return costs.
- Made sure replacement stock is ready for immediate shipment.
- We’re paying €95 (~£82) per affected wheelset to dealers once the recall process is complete.
What Madison need from retailers
1. Contact customers who may have purchased the affected wheelsets or bikes (including second-hand sales).
2. Help customers check their DT Swiss ID code and visit the recall website
3. Notify us if a customer decides not to return their wheels.
4. Send all affected wheels back to us (OEM or aftermarket) — no proof of purchase is required.
Fast-track process
- Request a warranty return number from Madison.
- If you need boxes, notify us when requesting warranty return number, and we will send them out.
- We’ll arrange collection from your store.
- If possible, send wheels without tyres, tubes, cassettes, or discs to speed up turnaround.
- Tested wheels that pass will get a pass sticker applied to the rim and be returned to you. Wheels that fail will be replaced with new stock from our warehouse.
Positive progress so far
We’ve already started shipping cleared wheels back to stores (from Thursday, 7th August).
Early results show 95% of tested wheels pass and can go straight back into use.
Madison’s stock has been fully tested and is now available on B2B for normal ordering.
A big thank you
Phillips concludes: “We know this recall is disruptive — to your workshop, your sales floor, and your customers. That’s why we’re doing everything we can to keep the process smooth, fast, and fully supported.
“Your quick action so far has already made a huge difference. With your help, we’ll get riders back on their bikes quickly, keep your shelves stocked, and maintain confidence in DT Swiss products.
“Thanks for being our partner in this. We’ll keep you updated at every stage.”
