Helmet brand entered the Den last weekend

Did Torch helmets get investment in Dragons’ Den?

Is it just us or are we seeing more bicycle businesses entering Dragons’ Den of late? Torch is the latest to attempt to gain investment on the BBC’s business programme.

Torch’s founder Nathan Wills and business partner Hugh Roper asked for £75,000 for ten per cent of the business.

If you haven’t heard of it before, Torch has been in the bike business for at least a couple of years (we spied it at Interbike in 2012) and has lights integrated into the helmet. Pitched as the first helmet to have rechargeable lights, the lights are positioned to give 360 degree visibility. Torch also produces light-up backpacks.

The investors were initially enthusiastic, but worries that Torch’s patent wasn’t quite as far reaching as they’d hoped eventually scuppered hopes of investment.

You can still catch the programme on iPlayer. Torch starts at the 16 minute mark.
