Deliveroo to stage Olympic Park race to find fastest delivery rider

Gig-economy company Deliveroo is to stage "Roo Races" to find its fastest food-delivery cyclist. The races are open to Deliveroo riders only.

Riders nominate themselves and then fellow riders vote for their city champions. Those selected will be invited to take part in a dash around the outdoor circuit at the Olympic Park in London on 17th Janaury before the top 16 move indoors for a sprint around the velodrome. Riders will not be expected to race with the oversized rucksacks they use for schlepping hot food from restaurants to homes.

Deliveroo riders can make as much as £120 a day, claims the company, with the fastest riders able to make more deliveries per hour.

The company – founded in 2015 – now delivers food in 200 cities world-wide.
