Carbon Wasp expands production in new Leeds facility

Carbon Wasp recently expanded its production capacity with the inclusion of a new workshop facility in Leeds, UK.

With the new facilities, Carbon Wasp is capable of offering fully customised frames including hardtail and full-suspension MTBs, road and CX frames.

Carbon Wasp’s Adrian Smith commented: “We have developed a unique process aimed at making affordable one-offs and small batches. Using additive manufacturing, we can create cost effective moulds and tooling which we combine with standard composites techniques to make strong, light and beautiful parts.

“We use the highest quality pre-preg carbon fibre and cure frames as one-piece with custom made silicone bladders. This allows us to get closer to the optimum strength characteristics of carbon fibre and also allows us to make entirely custom frames, including custom geometry, tube profiles and frame shapes. We can also work with customers to design and develop new and unique full-suspension platforms.”

“Some customers come to us with an initial idea for a frame, or a component and we help them develop that into a full design before we produce a working protoype. Others come to us with a full 3D CAD model and we just make the part. We can redesign existing bikes and make new parts, e.g. a new swingarm to fit larger wheels in an existing frame, or an extra small front-triangle to fit an existing suspension frame.”

Pricing varies depending on the work involved; to design and produce a custom hardtail MTB or road frame costs on average £2,100, whilst a full suspension MTB frame starts at £3,200.
