New programme devised to help spot and develop talent

British Cycling re-opens BMX Academy

Following the opening of the £24 million National Indoor BMX Centre in Manchester, British Cycling has re-established a residential BMX academy.

Opening its doors early next month, a part-time academy coach will be recruited to support the programme, to be overseen by national BMX coach Grant White.

According to performance director Dave Brailsford, the academy will help British Cycling identify and develop up-and-coming talents.

He said: “Now that we benefit from a world-class facility it makes sense to ensure we have the right structure in place within the BMX programme to effectively identify and develop future talent.

“The academy will enable us to do so and generate a stream of riders hopefully with the quality to succeed at the highest level, meaning we can look ahead to 2016, 2020 and beyond with optimism.”
