Boneshaker 20 is the mag’s final issue

The 20th issue of Boneshaker, published on December 7th, will be the magazine’s last, confirm the publishing team.

"Boneshaker has always been a passion project for us – a way of sharing stories and inspiration, giving positive voices one more place to be heard," co-founder James Lucas told BikeBiz.

The magazine was started 2009, created from the Bristol Bike Project, also co-created by Lucas.

"We’ve tried not to be like mainstream bike mags, eschewing kit and machismo and focussing instead on the human, emotional and experiential pleasures of life on two wheels," said Lucas.

The magazine has been stocked in the Tate in London, MoMA in New York, and in bookshops, galleries and bike shops around the world.

"We’ve featured two Turner prize-winning artists and one poet laureate. We’ve been invited to talk at the V&A, partnered with the Design Museum on a major exhibition and ridden with some truly amazing and inspiring people over the years," mused Lucas.

"Twenty issues feels like a natural stopping point, and as real-life crowds in on all sides and making time gets ever more difficult, we’re looking forward to a bit of a break, and then to move on to something new.

"We really don’t know what that might be. We’ve built great friendships across the cycling world and have a huge network of talented people around us, so we feel confident we’ll be able to do something good; something that matters to us on a personal and political level and brings pleasure to those who encounter it."

Lucas added: "We’re not ending, we’re evolving. Keep your ears to the ground."
