Bespoke track to be build for event; Championships moved forward to prevent Olympic clash

Birmingham readies for the 2012 BMX World Championships

The official UCI flag has been handed over to Birmingham ahead of the city hosting the 2012 UCI BMX World Championships.

Taking place at Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena (NIA), next year’s World Championships will see a bespoke track built for the event. Next year the WC will run earlier in the calendar to prevent a clash with the Olympic Games.

Birmingham representative Garry Peal received the flag at the close of the Copenhagen-set BMX World Cup last week.

Peal said: “We’d like to thank the people of Copenhagen for welcoming us to this year’s event and want to invite the world of BMX racing to Birmingham in 2012 as we look to build on the success of this week and again take BMX racing to the next level.”

Tickets will go on sale later in the year as the full schedule for the 2012 World BMX Championships is set.
