Bike Week 2012: Rides, bike breakfasts and cycle training

As our wise readers will already know, we’re in the middle of Bike Week 2012 – the nationwide collection of events all aimed at getting people on bicycles and showing them about fun on two wheels.

Are we, as a nation and industry, ignoring the initiative to encourage cycling? Happily, no. There are over 1,500 events officially linked to Samsung Bike Week and searchable on the Bike Week site here.

London Cycling Campaign has a listing of a wide variety of events in the capital – including a bike maintenance workshop in Kentish Town today and a cyclist tea on Friday in Waltham Forest. See the full list of events here.

Bike brand Claud Butler has informed us it is giving away a Claud Butler Hybrid Urban 300 bike to celebrate Bike Week. Punters have to retweet the competition with their Twitter account to be in with a chance to win.

Llandrindod Wells-set National Cycle Collection is offering half price admission to anyone arriving on a bicycle between June 18th and 22nd.

Nottinghamshire County Council is urging locals to make use of its 12-month old Rainworth to Pleasley cycling route.

Transport for Greater Manchester is offering a free cycle training course via the Greater Manchester Commuter Cycle Project.

This morning, the Spokes bike breakfast took place at Edinburgh’s City Chambers, where riders got security advice and free food.
