ActSmart survey reveals the widening gulf between top and bottom performing retailers

Bike retailer sales up 1.7 per cent

Specialist cycle retailers saw like for like sales up 1.7 per cent in February, according to the latest ActSmart survey.

But the report also found that only just over a third of the shops surveyed (36 per cent) saw trading improve in February – with growth at 25.2 per cent – while almost two thirds were down in the same month.

64 per cent of participating shops saw trade down on a like-for-like basis, reporting a 3.1 per cent decrease in February.

ActSmart said that the February figures show that the gap between top and bottom performers is increasing as the shops that are showing growth are doing that in the face of under-performing shops.

Top performers saw sales rise by more than 5 per cent compared with January.
