Cycling Plus magazine has named the Giant TCR Advanced 3 as its 2009 Bike of the Year.
10 testers from the publication pared 37 bikes down to one in establishing the top bike. The Argon 18, Cinelli Willin’, Ribble Racing Sportive, Time Speeder, Trek Madone and Wilier Mortirolo all made it to the final shortlist, with the Giant bike winning out overall for flexibility for racing and long rides – and for an enjoyable ride.
Each bike had to cost between £1,200 and £1,700 – the average amount a cyclist is expected to spend on their next bike. Each judge took turns on riding the bikes through the New Forest to make their decision.
“Our Bike of the Year issue is essential reading for anyone planning on buying a road bike this year,” said Cycling Plus editor Rob Spedding. “It was a massive undertaking – each bike we tested was excellent – but it was well worth the effort.
“In the Giant TCR Advanced 3 we have a worthy winner. It’s a quite brilliant all-rounder – fast and sharp enough to race on, comfortable enough for riding all day long and reliable enough to use for your daily commute.”
