Gary Bird, owner of multiple bike shops to take on cycle retailer alongside new partners

Bath’s John’s Bikes to be revived by Just Add Legs

Widely known Bath cycle retailer John’s Bikes is to re-open, with Gary Bird’s Just Add Legs Ltd taking over.

Bird, whose other cycle retail businesses include Hoops Velo and Richmond Cycles, has partnered with Stephen Russell to relaunch the store. The business closed suddenly earlier in March, with varying reports on the shop’s future tossed around by local resident and bike trade insiders.

Bird told BikeBiz: "I have a new business partner; Steve Russell who is new to the cycle industry and we plan to John’s Bikes firmly back on the map. I’m delighted with the response and support we’ve had from within the trade in getting this 38 year old business up and running again. Short term it’s about reopening and we plan some serious investment at the end of this season. Just Add Legs Ltd has also bought a stake in one of my other stores; Richmond Cycles. This outlet is currently undergoing major refurbishment and will reopen within the next week.

"We plan to give the store some love! it’s tired and in need of a complete overhaul. The downstairs will be reconverted into a stunning road showroom with the Guru Bike Fit solution before the year’s out. There are some great shops in Bath, Johns will be one of them again!"
