App, downloaded over 100,000 times, goes free to celebrate Boris Bikes hitting second birthday

Barclays Bikes app goes free to celebrate anniversary

The Barclays Bike mobile app – aimed at Barclays cycle hire users – has gone free from this week to celebrate the scheme’s second anniversary.

The app has been improved for the anniversary and now it’s easier to plan a journey with turn-by-turn instructions or find a space to dock a Boris Bike, according to Barclays. Available on iPhone and Android platforms, the app has been downloaded over 100,000 times.

14 million journeys have been made using Barclays Cycle Hire bikes, with a new daily record of 45,748 completed on Monday, 23 July.

“We are delighted to have reached a second anniversary for this important scheme as it makes such a positive difference to everyday life in London, its people and the economy," said Barclays UK Retail and Business Banking CEO Ashok Vaswani. "We have developed our free Barclays Bikes app to make cycling easier, more accessible and inspire people to get out and enjoy London by bike.

“As cycling continues to transform the city of London we are looking forward to more Londoners and tourists using the schemes and using the ‘Barclays Bikes’ app to help them get about.”

It’s available on the App store and for the Android marketplace.
