A third less. The Brooks B17 Titanium special will be available from April and will be exhibited for the first time at the Harrogate trade show, 26-28th May.

B17 Ti-railed saddle from Brooks weighs less

Brooks has engineered a saddle with the classic shape of a B17 complete with a titanium undercarriage.

The new saddle offers the comfort of a traditional B17 shape but with a weight reduction of 33 percent. The B17 will fitt all modern standard micro-adjust seat posts and is available in honey, black, antique brown, maroon or grey leather.

Before the April launch Brooks is said to be taking the unprecedented step of ‘building up stock’ of this new model.

"The reason for this is simple," said Nick Sanders, sales and marketing man at Brooks.

"When this saddle was made available through special order in the US we were inundated with orders. We do not want to launch worldwide and not be able to satisfy everyone."

Gordon Nixon, Brooks MD, said: "Since we became an independent company we have been able to listen and react more quickly to the demands of customers. We have been anxious to listen to our target audience and so have undertaken visits to local cycling clubs. An illustrated talk on how Brooks saddles are made, the range, and the advantages of Brooks

saddles is followed by an open and frank Q&A session. We get an appreciation of what today’s rider is demanding from their saddles and how Brooks can give the modern rider what they want."

Factory manager David Lowe said that the Ti-special ccould pose problems

for him:

"I only have a finite capacity for manufacturing solid rivet saddles due to the timescale taken to master the craft of leather working. This is why we are building a stock prior to the launch date."
