Arragon’s Cycle Centre in running to be named Britain’s Best Small Shop

Arragon’s Cycle Centre in Penrith is in the running to be named Britain’s Best Small Shop.

The business has been shortlisted from more than 600 entrants in the awards run by the Independent Retailers Confederation (IRC).

The shop has been in the town’s high street for 50 years.

Owner Sarah Graham said: “As a business, we’re at the heart of the community supporting events, entertaining local clubs and groups with maintenance evenings."

The aim of the competition is to highlight the importance of small businesses to the UK economy.

The winner will be announced at an event at the Houses of Parliament on 13th November.

Chairman of the IRC Mark Walmsley said: "Despite all of the bad headlines and the high-profile closures of larger stores, we firmly believe that specialist independent retailers can thrive in this climate by delivering a truly unique retail experience.

"The Best Small Shops competition enables us to celebrate this unique industry, the passion, service, flexibility and knowledge of independent shop owners offer and show customers what makes independent retailers so special."
