America launches inter-city B-connected bike hire scheme

US bike hire system B-cycle has launched B-connected – the first inter-city bike sharing scheme in the country, allowing cyclists to use their membership at different cities in the US.

B-connected is launching into Denver and Boulder, with more cities to follow.

Annual members will be able to swipe their one B-cycle membership card from their home city to use bikes from either system location.

A spokesperson said: "The goal of the B-connected initiative is to make bike travel within the two cities more convenient, and ultimately share bikes across all B-cycle locations nationwide.

"Since B-cycle began in April 2010, B-cycle members have taken 408,958 bike trips over 862,841 miles, saved 63,289 gallons of fuel, and burned 25,885,264 calories to lose 7,397 pounds.

"B-cycle hopes for more participants to join so they can continue reducing carbon emissions (1,248,470 lbs. to date)."
