Componentry brand absoluteBLACK, famed for helping to make oval chainrings popular, has announced the launch of two new products: a direct mount oval chainring for an 8 bolt crankset and a caliper alignment tool.

It’s been a while since BikeBiz has reported on new product releases from the brand, with the last being a new size of its GraphenLube bottle. But the new chainring has been created “in response to overwhelming customer demand,” according to absoluteBLACK.

The new premium Direct Mount 1X Oval Chainring is specifically designed for single-sided flat chains, including YBN MK120 and more. It fits cranks with an 8-bolt mounting pattern, including SRAM AXS cranks. According to absoluteBLACK, the chainring teeth have been specifically redesigned to work in all conditions with narrower chains that inherently have less space to accommodate mud.

This technology has been patented by the brand in both the US and EU. The chainring offset is 6mm (same as a stock part) and will be available in sizes 38t up to 46t. It will also be available in Black and Titanium colours. The new chainring will be priced at £104.95 / €119.95 / $139.95.

The second product release is the absoluteBLACK Caliper Alignment Tool; a low-cost solution to keeping brake pads from wearing unevenly.

According to the brand, proper caliper alignment is essential for consistent braking and quiet performance. The absoluteBLACK Caliper Alignment Tool allows for fast, accurate, and repeatable brake-pad clearance setup, ensuring the pads sit perfectly parallel to the disc rotor. This minimizes the risk of pad rub and prevents uneven, angled pad wear—helping extend pad life and maintain consistent braking feel over time.

The caliper alignment tool can be used together with absoluteBLACK caliper bolts and ultra-low friction washers, to help achieve disc-brake alignment.

Unlike clamshell-style tools, the absoluteBLACK alignment tool features a tweezer-like design that adapts naturally to any rotor thickness. This makes it universally compatible across different rotor standards.

It is manufactured from a premium-grade Copper-Titanium alloy, with an integrated laser-etched millimeter ruler for quick and accurate bolt-length measurement. This can be especially useful when replacing disc brake adapter bolts and for riders accustomed to imperial measurements, as all bicycle bolt lengths are specified in millimeters.

The caliper tool is priced at £9.95 / €10.95 / $12.95.
