Pirelli has introduced a completely redesigned Scorpion Gravity mountain bike tyre range, covering trail, enduro, freeride and downhill racing applications.
The new line-up introduces a simplified naming structure intended to make tyre choice easier for riders and retailers. Customers first select one of three tread patterns, then choose a casing level and compound to suit their riding style, terrain and required level of protection.
The range is built around three tread patterns: Black Sting, Emperor and Red Claw. Each name is inspired by a different scorpion species and is intended to reflect the conditions in which the tyre has been designed to perform.
Black Sting is described as a fast-rolling option for hardpack and compact terrain, aimed at riders looking for speed, precision and responsiveness. Emperor is positioned as the all-rounder in the range, building on Pirelli’s previous Race M tread design for mixed terrain and changing trail conditions. Red Claw, based on the former Race T pattern, is aimed at riders seeking maximum traction and control in loose-over-hard, dusty and off-camber conditions.

The casing options comprise ProWALL, HardWALL, DualWALL and DH+ WALL. All are now eMTB-ready, covering use on conventional mountain bikes, light eMTBs and full-power electric mountain bikes. The four casings range from lighter, more responsive constructions through to dual-ply downhill racing options designed for maximum protection and stability.
Pirelli is also offering three compounds across the range: Medium, Soft and Supersoft. The compounds use the brand’s motorsport-derived colour coding, with Medium identified by yellow, Soft by red and Supersoft by purple.
The new Scorpion Gravity range has been developed by Pirelli technicians with input from three-time Downhill World Champion Fabien Barel, alongside athletes including Brendan Fairclough, Jack Moir, Thomas Genon, Juan Diego Salido, Fabio Wibmer and Lachlan Blair.
Fabien Barel said: “Having worked closely with Pirelli, I’ve seen firsthand how deeply their expertise runs, from Formula 1 to the Motorcycle World Championship, from motocross to high-performance cars. That same racing DNA is now driving innovation in mountain biking – across compound technology, casing construction, and tread design.

“What stands out most when riding these new tyres is how consistent the grip feels across the entire tread, no matter the terrain, and how stable the casing stays even when conditions get rough – it’s the kind of confidence you notice within the first few turns.”
First stock of the new Pirelli Scorpion Gravity range is arriving this week. In the UK, the range is available from Extra UK, Pirelli’s exclusive UK distributor, while Cyclex will supply the range in Ireland.
Retail prices range from £54.99 to £79.99 SRP. Retailers can order through Extra UK or speak to their Area Sales Manager about becoming a Pirelli stockist.
