Zwift expands with mountain climb

Digital cycling platform Zwift has just expanded the game with a new course extension to Watopia Island with its first Alpine-style mountain, Alpe Du Zwift.

Alpe Du Zwift will bare more than a few similarities to one of the most famous climbs in cycling, Alpe D’Huez. However, while the terrain mimics the French giant, Zwift has given the climb a Zwift twist. For many users, this will be the only way to simulate climbs of one hour or more in length.

The segment length is 7.5 miles (12km) with an elevation gain of 3400ft/1036m . The average gradient is 8.5 per cent. It is only available to Zwifters at level 12 or higher.

There are alternate means to ride this area of the game. Zwifters without level 12 status can opt to ‘Ride or Run With A Friend’ who is level 12 or higher to explore the new climb.

Official Zwift events taking place in the Expansion can have riders of any level participating, so access is possible under these circumstances.
