Zac Goldsmith backs Sign for Cycling campaign

Conservative candidate for Mayor of London Zac Goldsmith joined his fellow front-runner Sadiq Khan in backing LCC’s Sign for Cycling campaign.

Responding to the campaign’s call for all candidates to commit to: a tripling of the extent of the Cycle Superhighways programme, creating the opportunity for every borough to have a Mini-Holland scheme of cycling and walking, and to make sure “Direct Vision” lorries become the norm on London’s streets, Mr Goldsmith said he was “committed to achieving” this three-point agenda set by the Sign for Cycling campaign.

Reacting to the news LCC Chief Executive Ashok Sinha said: “London is the winner with this fantastic news. It means that both Zac Goldsmith and Sadiq Khan have now committed to meeting the three-point agenda of our Sign for Cycling campaign, and are promising to keep up the momentum achieved in recent years by Boris Johnson, in getting London cycling.

“This comes on top of the support for Sign for Cycling also received from Caroline Pidgeon, Sian Berry and Sophie Walker, meaning that whoever is elected more Londoners of all ages and abilities will be able to cycle safely and enjoyably for everyday journeys.

“London Cycling Campaign looks forward to working with Mr Goldsmith and holding him to account for this commitment, if he is elected”

Mayoral candidates Sadiq Khan (Labour), Zac Goldsmith (Conservative), Caroline Pidgeon (London Liberal Democrats), Sian Berry (Green Party), Sophie Walker (Women’s Equality Party), Peter Whittle (UKIP) and George Galloway (Respect) will debate cycling and other transport issues at a hustings jointly being held by the London Cycling Campaign and The Times on the morning of Friday 29th April.
