For 2013, Pannier is collaborating with YHA to map a network of more than 150 of the YHA’s properties throughout England and Wales for travelling cyclists.
The duo are aiming to raise awareness of YHA’s cycle-friendly affordable accommodation in England and Wales. Since 1930, youth hostelling charity YHA has offered accommodation to individual travellers, families and especially cyclists – almost 150 of its properties have dedicated cycle storage and facilities.
The Pannier website, launched in September 2012, provides a mapping-based resource for cyclists to find cycle-friendly places to stay and rest along major routes in the UK. Now, within the Pannier interface, is a dedicated section which displays all YHA’s accommodation, as well as branded markers and information panels highlighting the YHA’s along all routes plotted on the site. Through this resource, Pannier and YHA aim to make planning staying away with a bicycle more accessible.
YHA (England and Wales) has recently re-launched its website, adding new features such as the ‘Activity’ section which includes cycling and mountain biking to inspire people to stay away with their bikes.
A YHA spokesperson said: “We’re really excited about our new partnership with Pannier – their likeminded approach to inspiring people to explore and get out on their bikes, sits perfectly with YHA. By making routes and accommodation easier to source we can hopefully inspire more people to get out and discover the very best locations in England and Wales.”
Pannier’s founder added: “The team and I at Pannier are very proud to be working alongside YHA to inspire more people to stay away with their bikes. Through this collaboration we will make it easier for cyclists to find excellent and affordable YHA cycle friendly accommodation along some of the most fantastic cycle touring routes that England and Wales has to offer.”
